The amount of brown trout and stallions is overwhelming
. There are just many – very many – stallions and brown trout in the river. The distribution is about 75% stallions and 25% brown trout. The amount of Stallinger is overwhelming. The crystal clear water and the limited depth, allow you to see the fish and it does not make the excitement less!

Ribnik is breathtaking. It is a mixture of gravel and vegetation with a fifty fifty distribution. The rich underwater vegetation is home to millions of larvae and insects and species that the fish feed on. They are picky and need to be fished with just what is hatching.

Ribnik runs into the river Sana, which we also have to fish in. It is a completely different river, but it is also full of brown trout and stallions and simple “hucho hucho” (Donaulaks) in early spring. On the lodge hangs a stuffed specimen of approx. 118 cm!

Presentation, presentation, presentation…
The guides knock into our heads that success is about an always perfect fly that is presented correctly. In Ribnik, the dry fly fishing is fished downstream – nothing with liner the fish can see. It just needs to be learned, but the guides will probably make sure of that. The flies must be constantly changed and arranged.

The gear
Class 3-5 with a lead of 0.10 to 0.16. The fly sizes are from 16 to 24. In May, when the stoneflies hatch, the flies are larger.

In May and June there are hatches of stonefly and here the fly sizes are largest around size 12. Otherwise, the fish feed on very small insects hook size 20-24. Must greet and say that it is his business to hook a brook trout of 3-5 kilos of that size. And getting that land is an even bigger feat. And then there are even bigger brown trout!

It is dry fly fishing where the fish have the advantage!

Fishing rights, licenses and guides
The LTG fly fishing center has the right to fish and the fishing lodge. You can fish on all 5.6 kilometers. From 2019, the river is divided into zones so that not everyone fishes in the same place. When booking, all licenses and stays are paid for in full.

Accommodation
As far as possible we live in the wooden cabins shown right up the river. There are 4-5 man cabins, but we only live 3 in each. Then everyone can get a single room. There is a restaurant on the opposite side of the river and here we both eat and have fun many times every day.

The local fly shop is a small shed by the river
On the banks of the Ribnik there is a wooden shed, about 2 x 2 meters. There is just room for the proprietor (Blasco), a table, a couple of anglers and most importantly lots of beautifully tied local flies and they only cost approx. 1 € pr. PCS. This is where you fill your fly box!
